Bahadur Shah Faruqi
Bahadur Shah Faruqi was the last sultan of Khandesh in the northern Deccan. When he refused to submit to the Mughal emperor Akbar, Mughal armies besieged his great fortress of Asirgarh, which surrendered in January 1601. Bahadur Shah was imprisoned, and Khandesh was annexed as a Mughal province, with Burhanpur becoming a base for Mughal campaigns in the Deccan.
