Bainuk
The Bainuk are a people of the Casamance region of southern Senegal, The Gambia and Guinea-Bissau, regarded as among the oldest inhabitants of the area. In the 15th and 16th centuries Portuguese sources describe a Bainuk kingdom of Kasa on the south bank of the Casamance river, and Bainuk traders were important middlemen in regional trade. Later expansion of the Mandinka, Jola and Balanta absorbed much of their land.
