Also known as Little Tibet

Baltistan is a high mountain region in Gilgit-Baltistan, northern Pakistan, around the upper Indus and its tributaries, with Skardu as its main town. Its people, the Balti, speak a Tibetic language and are mainly Shia and Noorbakhshi Muslims. Ruled by local dynasties such as the Maqpon, it was conquered by the Dogras in 1840, and it contains K2 and the Baltoro Glacier.
