Dogras

Also known as Dogra

The Dogras are a people of the Jammu region in northern India. Dogra brothers, notably Gulab Singh and Dhian Singh, rose to great power at the court of the Sikh Empire, and after Ranjit Singh's death in 1839 their factional manoeuvres contributed to the instability that led to the Anglo-Sikh wars. Gulab Singh afterwards became ruler of Jammu and Kashmir.
