Banda Islands
The Banda Islands are a small group of islands in eastern Indonesia that were the world's only source of nutmeg and mace in the early modern period. The Dutch East India Company conquered them in 1621, killing or expelling most of the inhabitants. The islands were then worked as plantations by enslaved labourers under the Dutch Empire.
