Bandiagara
Bandiagara is a town in central Mali on the plateau above the Bandiagara Escarpment, the line of cliffs inhabited by the Dogon people and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After the death of Umar Tall in 1864, his nephew Tidiani Tall made it the capital of the eastern part of the Toucouleur Empire. French forces under Louis Archinard took it in 1893.
