Barisone II of Arborea

d. 1186 · 12th century · Also known as Barisone I of Arborea

Barisone II of Arborea was judge, or ruler, of the Judicate of Arborea in western Sardinia from 1146. With money borrowed from Genoa he had himself crowned King of Sardinia by Emperor Frederick Barbarossa at Pavia in 1164, aiming to rule the whole island. Unable to repay his debts, he was held in Genoa for years, and his royal title never gained real power.
