Barito River
The Barito is the largest river of southern Borneo, flowing some 900 kilometres from the Müller Mountains to the Java Sea through Indonesia's Central and South Kalimantan provinces. Banjarmasin, the capital of the Banjar Sultanate and later of the Dutch residency, grew near its mouth, and the river was the main route for trade in pepper, rattan and forest products from the interior.
