Battle of Chikhori

1463 · 15th century · Also known as Battle of Chikhori (1463)

The Battle of Chikhori was fought in 1463 in western Georgia, where Bagrat, a prince who had made himself king of Imereti, defeated King George VIII of Georgia with the help of the atabeg of Samtskhe. The victory confirmed the break-up of the united Georgian kingdom into the separate realms of Imereti, Kartli, Kakheti and Samtskhe.
