Battle of Gawakuke
The Battle of Gawakuke was fought in 1836 in northern Hausaland, where the forces of the Sokoto Caliphate under Sultan Muhammad Bello defeated a coalition of the Hausa states of Gobir and Katsina-Maradi that had risen against the caliphate. The ruler of Gobir was killed. The victory secured Sokoto's heartland, though raids and border wars continued for decades.
