Battle of Hulao

621 · 7th century · Part of the Transition from Sui to Tang

The Battle of Hulao was fought in 621 at the Hulao Pass, a fortified gap west of modern Zhengzhou in Henan, during the wars that followed the fall of the Sui dynasty. The Tang prince Li Shimin, besieging Wang Shichong in Luoyang, held the pass against Dou Jiande's relieving army, routed it and captured Dou. Wang Shichong surrendered soon after, and the victory gave the Tang control of the North China Plain.
