Transition from Sui to Tang

613–628 · 7th century

The transition from Sui to Tang was the period of rebellion and civil war in China from 613 to 628, as the Sui dynasty collapsed under the burden of Emperor Yang's failed wars against Goguryeo and his great building projects. Many rival leaders fought for power; Li Yuan proclaimed the Tang dynasty in 618, and by 628 his son Li Shimin, Emperor Taizong, had reunified China.
