Battle of Hysiae

669 BCE · 7th century BCE

The Battle of Hysiae was fought between Argos and Sparta near Hysiae in the Argolid, traditionally dated by the geographer Pausanias to 669 BCE. The Argives defeated the Spartans, a victory often linked with the reign of the Argive king Pheidon, and it held back Spartan expansion towards the Argolid for over a century until Sparta won the Thyreatis around 546 BCE.
