Battle of Jagaraga

1848–1849 · 19th century

The Battle of Jagaraga refers to the fighting at the fortified village of Jagaraga in the Balinese kingdom of Buleleng during the Dutch expeditions of 1848 and 1849. In 1848 Balinese forces under the patih Gusti Ketut Jelantik repulsed a Dutch attack with heavy losses. A larger Dutch army stormed Jagaraga in April 1849, leading to the conquest of Buleleng and the first lasting Dutch foothold on Bali.
