Battle of Jabani

1500 · 16th century

The Battle of Jabani was fought in 1500 in Shirvan, in present-day Azerbaijan, between the young Safavid leader Ismail and the Shirvanshah Farrukh Yasar. Ismail's Qizilbash won, and Farrukh Yasar was killed, avenging the deaths of Ismail's father and grandfather at the hands of the Shirvanshahs. The victory opened the way for Ismail's capture of Tabriz in 1501 and the founding of the Safavid state.
