Battle of Mahidpur

1817 · 19th century · Part of the Third Anglo-Maratha War

The Battle of Mahidpur was fought on 21 December 1817 near Mahidpur in Malwa, central India, between the army of the Holkar state of Indore and British forces under Sir Thomas Hislop and Sir John Malcolm. The British won after hard fighting against the Holkar artillery. The Treaty of Mandsaur in January 1818 then made Indore a subsidiary state under British protection.
