Battle of Mingtiao

c. 1600 BCE · 17th century BCE

The Battle of Mingtiao is the battle in which, according to traditional Chinese history, Tang, founder of the Shang dynasty, defeated Jie, the last king of the Xia dynasty, around 1600 BCE. Jie fled and died in exile, and the event became the classic example of a virtuous ruler overthrowing a tyrant with the support of Heaven. Its location is uncertain and its historicity cannot be confirmed.
