Battle of Myeongnyang
The Battle of Myeongnyang was fought on 26 October 1597 in the Myeongnyang Strait off the south-western tip of Korea during the second Japanese invasion. With only thirteen warships left after an earlier Korean defeat, Admiral Yi Sun-sin used the narrow strait and its strong tidal currents to hold off a Japanese fleet of more than a hundred ships, sinking many of them. The victory stopped the Japanese advance by sea along the west coast.
