Battle of Sanfengshan

1232 · 13th century · Part of the Mongol conquest of the Jin dynasty

The Battle of Sanfengshan was fought in February 1232 in Henan, China, between the Mongols under Tolui and the main field army of the Jin dynasty. Caught in snow and cold after a long pursuit, the Jin army was destroyed and its commanders killed or captured. The defeat left the Jin with no army able to resist, and the Mongols went on to besiege the capital Kaifeng, which surrendered in 1233.
