Battle of the Bagradas River (49 BCE)
The Battle of the Bagradas River was fought in August 49 BCE in the province of Africa, near the river now called the Medjerda in Tunisia. Gaius Scribonius Curio, leading Caesar's invasion of Africa, was lured into an ambush by Saburra, general of King Juba I of Numidia, and his army was destroyed; Curio was killed. The victory kept Africa in Pompeian hands until 46 BCE.
