Battle of Tumusla

1825 · 19th century · Part of the Spanish American wars of independence

The Battle of Tumusla was fought on 1 April 1825 in Upper Peru, present-day Bolivia, between the last royalist forces under Pedro Antonio Olañeta and troops who had turned against him. Olañeta was mortally wounded, and royalist resistance in Upper Peru collapsed. It was the last battle of the independence struggle there, and Bolivia declared independence in August 1825.
