Battle of Vicus Helena

c. 448 · 5th century

The Battle of Vicus Helena was fought in the 440s, probably around 448, at an unidentified place in Artois in northern Gaul. The Roman general Aetius and the future emperor Majorian surprised the Salian Franks of King Chlodio during a wedding celebration and defeated them. The setback did not stop Frankish expansion, and Chlodio kept the lands he had taken up to the Somme.
