Belaya (Kuban)
The Belaya is a river of the north-western Caucasus, a left tributary of the Kuban about 270 kilometres long. It rises in the high mountains, cuts through deep gorges and flows past Maykop, the capital of Adygea. Its valley was home to Circassian tribes such as the Abadzekhs, Temirgoy and Hatuqwai until the Russian conquest of the 1860s.
