Belvedere, Vienna

1714–1723 · 18th century · Also known as Belvedere Palace

The Belvedere is a Baroque palace complex in Vienna built for Prince Eugene of Savoy by Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt, with the Lower Belvedere completed in 1716 and the Upper Belvedere in 1723. Its two palaces, linked by terraced gardens, are among the masterpieces of Viennese Baroque. Acquired by the Habsburgs after Eugene's death, it now houses the Austrian Gallery, including Gustav Klimt's The Kiss.
