Belz Hasidic dynasty

Also known as Belz Hasidism

The Belz Hasidic dynasty is a Hasidic movement founded in the town of Belz in Galicia by Rabbi Shalom Rokeach, who became its leader in 1817. Under his successors Belz became one of the largest Hasidic courts of eastern Europe. The community was devastated in the Holocaust, but its leader Aharon Rokeach escaped to Palestine in 1944, and the movement was rebuilt with its centre in Jerusalem.
