Ben Youssef Madrasa

1560s · 16th century

The Ben Youssef Madrasa is an Islamic college in the medina of Marrakesh, founded in the fourteenth century under the Marinids and rebuilt on a larger scale by the Saadi sultan Abdallah al-Ghalib in the 1560s. Arranged around a courtyard with a pool and about 130 student rooms, it is decorated with carved cedar, stucco and zellij tilework, and was once the largest madrasa in Morocco.
