Benjamin Constant
Benjamin Constant was a Swiss-born French political thinker of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries and a leading liberal theorist. His idea of a neutral "moderating power" held by the monarch above the other branches of government influenced the constitution of 1824 in Brazil. It provided the theoretical basis for the emperor's authority in the Brazilian Empire.
