Person
Bermudo II of León
Bermudo II was King of León from 984 to 999, having first been proclaimed in Galicia in 982 against his cousin Ramiro III. His reign coincided with the height of the power of al-Mansur, the regent of the Caliphate of Córdoba, whose raids sacked León and, in 997, the shrine of Santiago de Compostela, reducing Bermudo to submission and tribute. His son Alfonso V succeeded him.
