1789–1825 · 19th century · Also known as Monteagudo

Bernardo de Monteagudo was a revolutionary of the Spanish American wars of independence, born in Tucumán. He served José de San Martín in Chile and then in Peru, where as minister of war and foreign affairs in the Protectorate he dominated government. His harsh measures against Spaniards made him hated, and he was deposed and exiled in 1822. He was murdered in Lima in 1825.
