Bhaskaravarman

r. c. 600–650 · 7th century

Bhaskaravarman was the greatest king of the Varman dynasty of Kamarupa in Assam, ruling in the first half of the 7th century. He allied with Harsha of Kannauj against Shashanka of Gauda and, after Shashanka's death, took his capital Karnasuvarna. He received the Chinese pilgrim Xuanzang around 643, and his copper-plate grants are key sources for early Assam.
