Bhavsinhji I was a Gohil Rajput ruler in southern Saurashtra, Gujarat. In 1723 he founded the port of Bhavnagar on the Gulf of Khambhat and moved his capital there from Sihor, giving the state his name. The new port's sea trade made Bhavnagar one of the leading states of Kathiawar.
