Bir Singh Deo Tomar

late 14th century · 14th century

Bir Singh Deo, also called Virasimha, was a Tomara Rajput chief who founded the Tomara dynasty of Gwalior in the late 14th century. Serving the Delhi Sultanate as its power weakened in the 1390s, he took control of the great hill fort of Gwalior and ruled it as an independent prince. His successors, among them the builder king Man Singh Tomar, held Gwalior until it fell to the Lodi sultans of Delhi in the early 16th century.
