Black Sea Coastal Line
The Black Sea Coastal Line was a chain of Russian forts built from the late 1830s along the Black Sea coast of Circassia, from Anapa towards Abkhazia, to cut the Circassians off from Ottoman trade and supplies. Its isolated garrisons suffered heavily from disease, and in 1840 Circassian forces stormed several forts. Russia abandoned the line in 1854 during the Crimean War.
