Bokar Biro

d. 1896 · 19th century · Also known as Almamy Bokar Biro

Bokar Biro was the last independent almamy of the Imamate of Futa Jallon in present-day Guinea, who took power in the 1890s amid feuds between the ruling houses. His resistance to French control brought a French military expedition, which defeated and killed him at the Battle of Porédaka in November 1896. Futa Jallon was then made a French protectorate and absorbed into French Guinea.
