Bonaire
Bonaire is an island in the Leeward Antilles of the southern Caribbean, east of Curaçao and off the coast of Venezuela. Spain claimed it from 1499, and the Dutch West India Company took it in 1636, using it for salt production and cattle raising worked by enslaved Africans. It was part of the Netherlands Antilles until 2010, when it became a special municipality of the Netherlands.
