Botswana

Botswana is a landlocked country in southern Africa, much of it covered by the Kalahari Desert, with the Okavango Delta in the north-west. Its Tswana chiefdoms came under British protection as the Bechuanaland Protectorate in 1885, and it became independent in 1966 under Seretse Khama, with its capital at Gaborone. The discovery of diamonds soon after independence helped make it one of Africa's most stable and prosperous democracies.
