Bratuspantium

57 BCE · 1st century BCE

Bratuspantium was a fortified town (oppidum) of the Bellovaci in northern Gaul. In 57 BCE, during Julius Caesar's campaign against the Belgae, the Bellovaci gathered there and surrendered after the Aeduan leader Diviciacus pleaded on their behalf. Caesar's account is the only source, and the site is uncertain; Breteuil and Vendeuil-Caply in the Oise are among the places proposed.
