Gournay-sur-Aronde

4th–1st century BCE · 4th century BCE

Gournay-sur-Aronde is a village in the Oise department of northern France and the site of an Iron Age Gallic sanctuary excavated from 1977 by Jean-Louis Brunaux. The enclosed sanctuary, in the territory of the Bellovaci, held deposits of thousands of deliberately broken weapons, cattle and other animal remains and human bones. It became a reference site for understanding Gallic religious practice and warrior offerings.
