Govan

Govan is a district on the south bank of the River Clyde in Glasgow, Scotland. After the Vikings took Dumbarton Rock in 870 it became a royal and religious centre of the kingdom of Strathclyde, and Govan Old Parish Church holds a collection of carved stones of the 9th to 11th centuries, including the Govan Sarcophagus and hogback stones. In modern times it was a major shipbuilding centre.
