Govardhan Chand

r. 1741–1773 · 18th century

Govardhan Chand was Raja of Guler, a small Rajput hill state in the Kangra region of the western Himalayas, in the mid-18th century. His court patronised the painter Pandit Seu and his sons Manaku and Nainsukh, whose refined, naturalistic work founded the Guler style of Pahari painting. That style later spread to Kangra and other hill courts.
