Hari Chand of Guler

fl. c. 1405 · 15th century

Hari Chand was, by tradition, an heir to the throne of Kangra who around 1405 fell into a well while hunting and was presumed dead. His brother took the Kangra throne, and when Hari Chand was rescued he founded a new state with its capital at Haripur. This became Guler, later a centre of Pahari painting.
