Oise (department)

Oise is a department of northern France in the Hauts-de-France region, created in 1790 and named after the river Oise. Its prefecture is Beauvais, and it includes Compiègne, Senlis and Chantilly. In ancient times its lands were home to the Gallic Bellovaci and Silvanectes, and they later formed part of Picardy and the Île-de-France.
