Île-de-France

Île-de-France is the region around Paris in northern France and the historic heart of the French monarchy. Under the early Capetian kings the royal domain consisted chiefly of this area and Orléans, from which royal power gradually expanded over the kingdom. Today it is France's most populous region, with Paris as its capital.
