Callejón de Huaylas
The Callejón de Huaylas is the valley of the upper Santa River in the Ancash region of northern Peru, running between the snow-capped Cordillera Blanca and the Cordillera Negra. It was a heartland of the Recuay culture in the first centuries CE and lies close to Chavín de Huántar. Its main town is Huaraz, and in 1970 an earthquake-triggered avalanche buried the town of Yungay.
