Candelaria River
The Candelaria is a river of south-eastern Mexico that rises in Guatemala and flows through the state of Campeche into the Laguna de Términos on the Gulf of Mexico. In the late Postclassic period its basin was the land of Acalan, a Chontal Maya state whose capital, Itzamkanac, lay on the river and was visited by Hernán Cortés in 1525.
