Cap-Vert
Cap-Vert is the peninsula on the coast of Senegal that forms the westernmost point of mainland Africa. Named Cabo Verde by Portuguese navigators in 1444, it shelters the island of Gorée and is occupied today by the city of Dakar. Before colonial rule it was home to the Lebou people, who broke away from the kingdom of Cayor in the 18th century.
