Cape Mesurado
Cape Mesurado is a headland on the coast of Liberia, at the mouth of the Mesurado River. Agents of the American Colonization Society acquired it from local Dei rulers in December 1821, and from 1822 settlers founded the town of Monrovia there. The cape and nearby Providence Island became the nucleus of the Liberian capital.
