Cape Palmas

Cape Palmas is a headland at the south-eastern end of Liberia, near the border with Côte d'Ivoire, where the coast of West Africa turns east into the Gulf of Guinea. In 1834 the Maryland State Colonization Society founded a settlement there, which became the independent Republic of Maryland in 1854 and joined Liberia in 1857. The town of Harper stands on the cape.
