Ivory Coast
Ivory Coast, officially Côte d'Ivoire, is a country on the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa. It became a French colony in 1893 and part of French West Africa, growing into the federation's leading producer of coffee and cocoa, with labour drawn partly from Upper Volta. When Upper Volta was abolished in 1932, much of its territory was attached to Ivory Coast until 1947. The country became independent in 1960 under Félix Houphouët-Boigny.
