Capetian House of Anjou

Also known as Angevins of Naples, Angevin dynasty of Naples

The Capetian House of Anjou was a branch of the French royal family founded by Charles of Anjou, brother of Louis IX. Charles conquered the Kingdom of Sicily in 1266 but lost the island in the Sicilian Vespers of 1282, after which his descendants ruled the Kingdom of Naples until 1435. Another line, beginning with Charles Robert in 1308, ruled Hungary and, under Louis the Great, also Poland.
